Twilight
POSTED AT 02:16 PM as a favorite post

Why is Twilight so popular nowadas? Why does everybody seems to have been hypnotized into obsession for this fictional tale more than anything else?

Big Deal

I have no idea about Twilight nor do I claim myself as a fan. And then I ask myself, what is so great about it? Well, if it weren't for Robert Pattinson donning the walls of the cinema while I was apathetically sauntering over this boring mall one time, I wouldn't have piqued an interest. He's gorgeous and it's really hard to supress my insatiable fangirl seizures over him especially if his appearance was cut short during Harry Potter 4 movie, and did not give him longer exposure. It was his first appearance in the series but he died to the same. Any girl is blinded by his looks, I am. But it seems that it's all Edward Cullen that they give attention to not any other aspects of the movie. The infatuation over this perfect guy seems to mask the film, the book or the plot itself with its drawbacks.

I cannot claim myself as a Twilight hater because I myself lined up for hours to get a ticket and got excited for days-- well so much for the anticipation. I even made an attempt to read the first book but I was an utter fail. Some said it was really great so I was expecting it to, but honestly, I was dissatisfied with what I watched last weekend.

Drawbacks

There are few I could mention though. You can beg to differ to whatever I'll say but what I'll say is merely my opinion.

I have touched the 4 books but have not read any of them. Once, on a boring lecture, I flipped a book of my classmate when she was looking away and read one line. I forgot the exact words I read but I bet it's a dying message of either Bella or Edward to each other for that to be that cheesy. I also bet that the couple keeps on exchanging cheesy lines to each other. I glanced to some overdone adjectives written in the book and the way they described Edward was a little bit...gay.

I noticed that Ed doesn't act his age (107 right?). I expect him to be mature, knowledgeable and even ancient at that for living so long as the story implies. But by the way I see him easily gave in to a new girl in school is just as immature as kids these days.

They should have given more justice to the action scenes especially if they're saying that Twilight is a a vampire film. I love the baseball scene, but I was like has it started already for it to be over? It was short-lived. I didn't feel the vampireness of it. Do I even get a vampire movie here?

Un-vampire?

Sticking on that last question, this has irked me for quite a bit. If you like romance and all, this is the movie for you, but if you love a vampire movie, don't even think about it. I have this fascination for vampires in years. I use to watch "Interview with the vampire" in a looping manner. I found the movie funny but still you can say it's a vampire movie. Whereas Twilight here, leaking with cheesiness all over, is just so un-vampire to me. It lacked the neck-biting, blood spilling scenes, super ego thingy, the extra ordinary super powers they possess (other than mind-reading thing), vampire action...etc. Heck, Vampire Knight does it better.

I'll probably stop writing now, now that my mood is ruined by my disappointment. It might be a long list of complaints I write next regarding the movie. I think I've written enough to say how much I am dissatisfied with it. Of course, I'm still gonna read the book regardless of the knowledge that's it's cheesy and romantic (I don't like the 'romance'genre). I just couldn't muster a thought as to why majority (especially overly enthused teeny-boppers of today) are so obsessed with this vampire romance that lack twists in it. Just that Vampire and Romance. Very bland.

Same here. Not that I hate the series, though. It's too cheesy (or sugary? maybe?) for my liking. I've heard people say that it's better than the HP books. My say? i've seen better fanfiction writers. That's just my opinion, though. :)
